Assignment—— 750

Task description:

  •   For this task you need to create a single (1) slide (using PowerPoint) colour coded concept map and 750 word explanation, demonstrating analysis of the case study scenario emailed to you in week 1. A PowerPoint template file will be made available for you to customise based on your assigned case scenario.

  •   In your concept map you must:

    1) Interpret the patient’s risk factors (from the case-study scenario) and determine how these risk factors relate to the diagnosed disease/disorder; 2) Outline the links between the aetiology, cellular pathology and the pathophysiology of the diagnosed disease;

    3) Describe how the pathophysiology of the disease/disorder accounts for the patient’s clinical manifestations (described in the case-study scenario); and 4) Analyse and interpret evidence-based research to suggest appropriate diagnostic assessments and treatment modalities for the patient’s diagnosis.

     In your 750 word written explanation you must:

    1. 1)  Explain the links between the patient’s risk factors and aetiology to account for the disease’s/disorder’s pathophysiology.

    2. 2)  Describe how the disease’s/disorder’s pathophysiology manifests through the patient’s signs and symptoms.

    3. 3)  Justify your suggested diagnostic tests and treatment modalities listed in the concept map on their relevance and appropriateness for the diagnosed disease/disorder.

Introduction:

As a medical professor, the creation of assignments for medical college students is a crucial aspect of my job. One of the assignments that I have designed is creating a concept map and written explanation based on a case study scenario. This assignment aims to assess the student’s ability to analyze the patient’s risk factors, understand the pathophysiology of the diagnosed disease, and suggest appropriate treatment modalities.

Q: What is the objective of the concept map and written explanation assignment, as per the task description?

A: The objective of the concept map and written explanation assignment, as per the task description, is to analyze the patient’s risk factors, understand the pathophysiology of the diagnosed disease, and suggest appropriate treatment modalities. In the concept map, the students must interpret the patient’s risk factors, determine how they relate to the diagnosed disease, outline the links between aetiology, cellular pathology, and the pathophysiology of the disease, describe how the pathophysiology accounts for the patient’s clinical manifestations and suggest appropriate diagnostic assessments and treatment modalities. In the written explanation, the students must explain the links between the patient’s risk factors and aetiology, describe how the pathophysiology manifests through the patient’s signs and symptoms, and justify their suggested diagnostic tests and treatment modalities listed in the concept map on their relevance and appropriateness for the diagnosed disease/disorder.

Q: What is the case study scenario provided to the students?

A: The case study scenario provided to the students is about Priya, a 40-year-old female. Priya presents to her GP with complaints of ongoing bouts of vaginal thrush, worsening fatigue, and excessive hunger. She has a history of recent urinary tract infections and cellulitis. After diagnostic testing, Priya is diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The students are required to analyze Priya’s risk factors, understand the pathophysiology of diabetes, and suggest appropriate treatment modalities based on evidence-based research.

Q: What is the importance of the concept map and written explanation assignment for the medical college students?

A: The concept map and written explanation assignment are important for the medical college students as they allow them to analyze a real-life case scenario and apply their theoretical knowledge to suggest appropriate diagnostic assessments and treatment modalities for the diagnosed disease. The assignment also helps the students understand the link between risk factors, aetiology, cellular pathology, and the pathophysiology of a disease. This assignment assesses the student’s ability to analyze and interpret evidence-based research, identify the relationship between different aspects of a disease, and communicate their analysis in a clear and concise manner.
