Introduction:
As a professor of medical sciences, I understand the importance of a well-crafted resume and cover letter for medical students seeking employment opportunities. In this assignment, students were asked to participate in the Active Verbs activity in the topic “Writing a Winning Resume” of the Unit 2 Learning Content and describe their experiences, the question they felt least prepared for, and the most important takeaway. Furthermore, students were asked to detail how they will use the knowledge gained in this unit to promote themselves in their resume, cover letter and interview responses using external sources to support their response. Finally, students are expected to provide peer reviews of their colleague’s plan to use what they have learned.

Answer:
The Active Verbs activity in the “Writing a Winning Resume” topic was challenging, but it helped me understand the importance of using power verbs to describe one’s experiences. The question I felt least prepared for was “what was the most significant achievement in your professional life?” I found this question challenging because I had to evaluate all my accomplishments and pick one that stood out among the rest. However, after some reflection and brainstorming, I was able to narrow down my achievements and describe them using strong action words.

The most important takeaway from the Active Verbs activity is that employers look for candidates who have achieved something unique and impressive. Using power verbs in my resume and cover letter can make a significant impact in grabbing the employer’s attention and creating interest in my background, skills, and experience. Additionally, it is important to be succinct and precise in one’s language as employers and hiring managers usually only glance at each resume for a few seconds.

In conclusion, I have learned that using power verbs and showcasing unique achievements is critical to success in the job market. I plan to use this knowledge in my cover letter and resume by emphasizing my accomplishments using strong and relevant action words. Furthermore, utilizing external sources such as professional resume writing services showed me innovative ways of creating short and eye-catching statements that can make a significant difference and also offer a unique perspective on the job search process.
