NURS 6050 Walden University Evidence Base in Design Discussion

When politics and medical science intersect, there can be much debate. Sometimes anecdotes or hearsay are misused as evidence to support a particular point. Despite these and other challenges, however, evidence-based approaches are increasingly used to inform health policy decision-making regarding causes of disease, intervention strategies, and issues impacting society. One example is the introduction of childhood vaccinations and the use of evidence-based arguments surrounding their safety.

In this Discussion, you will identify a recently proposed health policy and share your analysis of the evidence in support of this policy.

To Prepare:

  • Review the Congress website provided in the Resources and identify one recent (within the past 5 years) proposed health policy.
  • Review the health policy you identified and reflect on the background and development of this health policy.

Introduction:

The intersection between politics and medical science can often lead to debates and disagreements. However, evidence-based approaches have become increasingly important in informing health policy decision-making. In this discussion, we will analyze the evidence supporting a recently proposed health policy.

Answer:

After reviewing the Congress website, I have identified a recent health policy proposal called the Mental Health Reform Act of 2016. This policy aims to improve mental health care in the United States by increasing access to treatment and resources for patients with mental health conditions.

The Mental Health Reform Act of 2016 was developed in response to the growing concern about the inadequate mental health care system in the United States. The policy aims to address this issue by providing funding for mental health services, improving mental health research, and increasing access to mental health care for underserved populations.

The evidence supporting the Mental Health Reform Act of 2016 is extensive. Studies have shown that access to effective mental health treatment can improve the overall health and well-being of patients with mental health conditions. Additionally, providing resources for mental health research can lead to the development of new and more effective treatments.

Overall, the Mental Health Reform Act of 2016 has the potential to improve the mental health care system in the United States and provide better care for those with mental health conditions. The evidence supporting this policy is strong, and it is crucial that it is implemented to improve the lives of those who are struggling with mental health challenges.
